Jefferson Davis “Sonny” Frazier was born Sept. 5, 1946, to Frank and Geraldine Frazier in Stonewall, Oklahoma.

He is a graduate of Tupelo High School. Mr. Frazier earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Central University.

During his career as an educator, Mr. Frazier provided counseling in the Oklahoma public school system for seven years before taking over as director of education for the Chickasaw Nation. Mr. Frazier stayed in this position for 17 years.

In his career, he also served as director of Carter Seminary Boarding School in Ardmore, Oklahoma. His passion for First American students under his guidance was evident in his work to make sure they had all they needed to fulfill their educational goals.

Mr. Frazier’s other passion was serving the church. He was the pastor for Boiling Springs United Methodist Church near Lula, Oklahoma, where he shared his culture and heritage in a multitude of ways. Native language and hymns could be heard throughout his services.

He also served many different churches as a pastoral minister for the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference.

Mr. Frazier served as the chaplain for the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center for five years. In this position, he was frequently called upon to perform a variety of services for First Americans in the area.

Jefferson Frazier died Feb. 4, 2012, at the age of 65. He left a true legacy within the Chickasaw Nation through his service and ministry.
