Joe F. Moore, great-grandson of Colbert Ashalatubby Burris, was born and raised in Oklahoma. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a degree in chemical engineering.

Moore had a long career in the oil, gas and computing business that began with a partnership forming a consulting company and growing it into a worldwide enterprise.
His company became an innovative market leader in its field. Using new technology, they improved efficiency and computer modeling of oil refining operations, marking a significant achievement.

Moore was recognized for his accomplishments in engineering, electronic computing, university education, science policy and research and performing arts. His pioneering efforts in the field of electronic computing is documented in the professional journal “Annals of the History of Computing” (July-September 2003). Additionally, he was recognized for his work in “Who’s Who in America” (1979), “Who’s Who in Finance and History” (1985) and “Who’s Who in the World” (1987).

Throughout his life, Moore contributed his time and service to his church by working in various roles and leadership positions. He was an active citizen in the local community, serving on various management boards, including the Houston School for the Deaf and the Houston Symphony Board, where he served 10 years on its executive committee and four years as board chairman.

He is a founding board member of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for the Performing Arts.
Moore had a lifelong relationship with MIT. He served in various roles and positions, including president of the MIT Alumni Association, 11 years as an institute trustee, and 20 years as a member of the Visiting Committee for Humanities and the Research Advisory Board of the MIT Energy Laboratory.

Moore was a founding member of the President’s Circle of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine. In the early 1990s, he was named a trustee of the Southwest Research Institute – a large nonprofit research organization headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

Moore has been recognized by his peers for his expertise and leadership. He was known to his family and friends for his dignity, integrity and civility.

Moore and his wife of 67 years, Glenna, raised their five children instilling these values in them. He was proud of his heritage and shared it with all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, continuing the legacy of his ancestry.
